Metoposcopy - forehead-line reading - was systematized by the Italian mathematician Girolamo Cardano in the 16th century, who mapped the lines of the forehead to the seven classical planets. Saturn governed the highest lines, Jupiter below it, then Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon at the brow. Each planet carried its qualities into the character of the person who bore its lines. It's one of the stranger intersections of Renaissance astronomy and character reading, and the specific detail of Cardano's system gives it a precision that broader face reading lacks.

How it works

You'll be guided through a series of questions about your forehead lines - how many you have, where they sit (high, mid, low), how they run (straight, curved, broken, forked), and any notable features (crosses, stars, circular marks). The oracle maps your answers to Cardano's planetary system and returns the reading per line position and feature.

Understanding your result

The top forehead line governed by Saturn describes your relationship to discipline, endurance, and what limits you. A clear, unbroken Saturn line traditionally indicates controlled ambition. A broken or forked Saturn line suggests disruptions to long-term plans. The Jupiter line below it relates to power, recognition, and judgment. The Sun line (fourth from top) governs vitality and public reputation. The Moon line at the brow is associated with imagination, emotional life, and the interior world. Distinctive marks - crosses, stars, triangles at specific positions - carry their own Cardanian interpretations.

Frequently asked questions

Is metoposcopy still practiced today?

It's largely historical - it peaked in the 16th and 17th centuries and declined with the Enlightenment's skepticism toward physiognomy. It's practiced today by some traditionalist astrologers and face-reading enthusiasts. We offer it as a historical curiosity and self-reflection tool.

What if I don't have many forehead lines?

Cardano's system accounts for that - fewer lines also carry meaning, often associated with youth, simplicity, or a less externally complicated life path. The oracle interprets the lines present, not their absence as a deficit.

Is this the same as Chinese face reading?

No - they share the general premise (face as character map) but are entirely different systems. Chinese face reading (mian xiang) has its own detailed tradition. Metoposcopy is specifically the European Renaissance planetary system applied to the forehead.

Is this for entertainment?

Yes - offered for entertainment and historical curiosity, not as a personality assessment or medical tool. It's a window into how Renaissance thinkers connected the sky to the body.
