Synastry is relationship astrology - the technique of comparing two natal charts to see where they align, where they create friction, and what the combination tends to produce between two specific people. It's not about whether two sun signs are 'compatible.' It's about exact planetary aspects between your charts: your Venus in hard angle to their Mars; their Saturn sitting directly on your Moon. Those specific contacts describe the specific texture of what you two create together.
How it works
Enter two sets of birth data: date, time, and city for each person. The calculator generates both natal charts and then maps the inter-chart aspects - the angles between Person A's planets and Person B's planets. The synastry reading covers the major contacts: Venus-Mars aspects (desire and attraction), Sun-Moon contacts (core compatibility), Saturn aspects (structure, commitment, and friction), and any dominant patterns in the chart overlay.
Understanding your result
Key synastry contacts and what they traditionally describe: Venus conjunct Mars between charts - strong physical attraction, possibly combustible. Sun trine Moon - ease and emotional intuition between partners. Saturn on someone's personal planets - often a 'teacher-student' dynamic, with the Saturn person feeling responsible and the personal-planet person sometimes feeling restricted. Jupiter contacts are expansive - the Jupiter person tends to make the other feel bigger. Mars-Mars squares create energy that's either competitive or sexually charged. Frequently asked questions
Do I need both birth times?
Birth times are strongly preferred - the Moon moves fast (a different sign every 2.5 days) and the Ascendant changes every two hours. Without exact times, Moon and Ascendant placements may be inaccurate, and those are often the most personally felt contacts in a synastry.
Can synastry tell me if a relationship will last?
Synastry describes the nature of the connection and the patterns it tends to generate, not its longevity. A chart full of challenging aspects can describe an intense, transformative relationship that lasts decades. Easy aspects don't guarantee anything.
Can I do synastry for non-romantic relationships?
Yes - the technique works for any two people: business partners, parent and child, close friends. The same aspects read differently depending on the relationship context.
Is this a scientific method?
Astrology is a symbolic system, not an empirical science. Synastry is a reflective tool for understanding relational dynamics - not a diagnostic or predictive instrument.
